Kayak Fresh Kills
August 2, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
ukipiper has been kayaking in NYC for several years now and the idea of doing a kayaking event came to him last year. There are hundreds of awesome places to kayak in NYC but in order to make this event accessible to everyone; he chose to do this event near a public boathouse. This means not only can you borrow one of the Free Kayaks; there will also be volunteers to assist you with life jacket fitting and basic Kayak skills if you are a newbie.
He chose this boathouse due to the awesomeness of it being in a park that most people have not been in yet! The Park does not allow cars and therefore you are not allowed to bring your own private Kayaks in yet… so everyone will have to use one of the park’s boats.
The Kayaks are free and you can borrow a boat and take it out yourself for a short spin around the Kill, normally about (15-20 min). If there is no line you can stay out longer. ukipiper will have a Geocaching flag on the back of his boat as he will be out in the water as a life guard, and he will have a free gift for all who find me.
Near the Boat house he has gotten permission to set up a separate tent for the day just for Geocachers! He will have a cooler with some snacks and drink. The Official Log book for the event will be near the cooler making it accessible to all even if you do not wish to Kayak. So feel free to hang out near the tent and catch up with fellow cachers while you’re not out on the water.
